Arizona Before the Change
An Ongoing Environmental Photography & Storytelling Project
by Shandylinn DeVita Creative Works
Arizona Before the Change is an ongoing visual documentation project focused on photographing Arizona’s landscapes, ecosystems, and remote natural environments as climate and environmental conditions continue to reshape the Southwest.
The project seeks to capture places many people may never have the opportunity to experience in person, from remote desert terrain and canyon systems to vulnerable ecosystems already showing visible signs of environmental stress.
Through photography, storytelling, education, and respectful collaboration with land stewards and Indigenous communities where permitted, the project aims to create a long-term visual archive of Arizona’s changing landscapes.
The goal is not fear, sensationalism, or exploitation.
The goal is connection.
Connection to the land.
Connection to environmental change.
Connection to the importance of preservation and stewardship for future generations.
